Aporum subteres first time published by William Griffith in Calcutta Journal of Natural History, and Miscellany of the Arts and Sciences in India volume 5 : 370 (1845). The hollotype specimen collected from  on tree in Ayer Punnus (Rhim) Malacca, Peninsular Malaysia.

We this this is the ID because the flowers look like Aporum acerosum, but differ more bigger flowers, a bit differs apex labellum and plant more bigger than Aporum acerosum. This plant more longer than hollotypus habitus thats say the plant c. 1 foot or less long. This specimen reach 50 cm. long.

The characteristic labellum : labello spathulato emarginato plicato- undulato fundo sub.tricristato is fide in this specimen.

Leaves : foliis distantibus subteretibus compressis arcuatis patentipus is fide in this specimen.

Old manuscript in topic Aporum acerosum note the Aporum acerosum flower similar to Aporum subteres.

This specimen collected by Mr. Dwi Jaya Bc from Tanjung, South Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia. It is epiphyte in rubber tree in rubber plantation. The input data inform to me as follow :

  • Plant : c. 50 cm, zig-zag. Inter node c. 2 cm long
  • Leavess : c. 3.2 cm long by 2 mm broad, subterete arcuatis
  • Flower : Soliter, terminal in leafless stem. Size 1.2 cm broad by 2 cm long. Colour purple to roseis with dark crimson or reddish nerve.  Dorsal sepal 5 nerves, petals1 nerve, and lateral sepals 5 nerves.
