Dendrobium lamelatum
Dendrobium lowii
Dendrobium microglaphys

Changes to botanical names are a routine consequence of research into any plant group. In the last decade various genera of orchids have been subject to detailed research by workers on Australia. Recent research in Canberra has included molecular studies which for the first time provide important information on the ancestral relationships of genera. As a result of these studies, Orchidaceae has undergone significant taxonomic and nomenclatural changes at both generic and specific rank. The generic treatment of Mark Clements and David Jones in Canberra is used as a basis for this key. This treatment is not yet universally accepted.
Major taxonomic revision of the Dendrobium group has occurred in recent years with many species being transferred to new genera. Some of these changes have been reasonably widely accepted (eg Dockrillia) while the status of others is less certain. The various forms of Dendrobium speciosum have been transferred to the genus Thelychiton by some authorities but the earlier name is retained here until the taxonomic situation becomes more clear.
